Volcan Poaz

Last weekend I ventured to Poaz Valcano which is just north of San Jose, about a two hour bus ride away. The ride up to the volcano was just as interesting as the the volcano itself because we drove up through tons and tons of coffee plantations. The road went all the way to the top of the volcano--we just had to walk 1/2 mile to get to the crater, which apparently claims to be the second largest crater in the world. The picture shows the steaming volcano. I guess we got lucky to have actually seen this because a lot of times in the rainy season it is hard to see anything because the clouds are so thick. There were a few other little nature trails that went through ´cloud forests´--really thick jungles. The lake on the right was also on the top of Poaz. There were lots of little "green squirrels" that some kids were feeding... I´m pretty sure that´s not good to do, but oh well! The plant with the little bird on it is this huge leaf that grows everywhere, it´s called poor man´s plant or something like that. This is a picture of me and my friend Dana who is also doing the international business concentration.

That is a huge crater! Volcanoes are amazing, aren't they! Try to see the one near Managua, Nicaragua, if you have time when you're there. It is huge, too -- about a mile across. Were the gases strong -- sulfurous or acrid? I love your nature photos. This blog is a great idea. Miss you.
